Olney ISD is committed to having a safe and healthy environment for students, families and staff. By addressing nutrition, physical activity, health education and substance abuse prevention in a variety of ways and to a variety of audiences, we hope to raise the awareness levels and the skills for all to live a healthy life.

The components of a coordinated school health program include:
Human Sexuality Curriculum
At Olney ISD, students in Grades 6-8 are taught Human Sexuality Curriculum through presentations by Olney ISD.
OISD believes that sexuality education begins at home. Parents or legal guardians are the primary educators of their children and can be the most important influence on your child’s health decisions. The lessons your child will receive in school are designed to reinforce what a parent or legal guardian is teaching at home, not to replace it.
During the 87th Texas Legislation, a new bill (Texas House Bill 1525) was adopted that requires parents or legal guardians to opt-in their students to participate in Human Sexuality curriculum. Please see the Notification Letters & Opt-In Forms below to opt your student in.

The following courses in Olney High School include TEKS which could include instruction related to human sexuality.
For a full listing of the TEKS (Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills) related to the courses which might include instruction related to human sexuality, please go to the Texas Education Agency.
In addition, abstinence is discussed as part of the original curriculum in Health science in accordance with TEC §28.004.
The school nurse and campus counselors assist students with questions or concerns as needed.
OISD will be hosting informational workshops that provide an overview of the Human Sexuality Curriculum.
The parent workshops are designed to give parents or legal guardians helpful tips for communicating with their children (grades 6-8) about human sexuality, allow them to review the curriculum, explore statistics from health officials and ask questions of OISD staff.
For more information about these parent workshops, or if you have questions about the curriculum, please contact Madison Ickert by email at mickert@olneyisd.net.
Parent Workshop Date(s):
These will be determined and sent out to parents 1 month prior to program implementation.
