Dr. Matt Caffey Named Lone Finalist

The Olney ISD Board of Trustees is pleased to announce Dr. Matt Caffey
as the lone finalist for Superintendent of Schools. This selection follows a thorough
search and interview process aimed at identifying a leader to guide Olney ISD toward
continued excellence.


Dr. Matt Caffey brings 20 years of public education experience, including 16 years as a
school administrator. He has served Olney ISD for the past eight years—seven as
principal of Olney High School and one as principal of Olney Elementary. With a
Doctorate in Educational Leadership from Texas Tech University and a B.A. and M.Ed.
from Texas A&M University, Dr. Caffey has a strong academic foundation. During his
tenure, he established expanded the district’s AP and machining programs, improved
test scores, and elevated Olney High School to a top-rated institution according to U.S.
News & World Report.


The Board conducted an extensive evaluation of highly qualified candidates before
choosing Dr. Caffey. Community input, gathered through a district survey, shaped the
interview process by highlighting the preferences and goals for Olney ISD’s future. Per
Texas Education Code Section 39.032, the Board will observe a mandatory 21-day
waiting period before finalizing the appointment.


“We are confident Dr. Caffey has the vision, leadership, and dedication to advance our
district’s mission of improving the future for every student,” said Board President
Summer Branum. “His deep understanding of our district, creativity, and drive to lead us
forward stood out throughout the process.”


Trustee Jeff Harvey added, “Dr. Caffey will be a strong advocate for our students, staff,
and community. His interview was insightful, and he’s the right person for this job.”
Trustee Jodee Wales echoed this sentiment, stating, “We believe he will bring stability,
accountability, and effective communication to Olney ISD.”
